My end of the week trip to LAKE GEORGE NY!
Well, fellas, it was time that we took another summer trip. This time, to Lake George NY! This town, which is just north of Saratoga Springs, is a very popular tourist destination for the attractions and lodging that lie within this amazing town! Here's how my late-week at Lake George NY went.
Day 1
Well, the reason why we came to Lake George NY is because Melanie (my foster sister) went to the Explore Your Future camp at RIT in Rochester NY and we had to pick her up. But, Mom was so nice that she decided to take us to Lake George NY on the way back from Rochester NY.
Coming from the Springfield MA area, to get to Rochester NY, first you have to take I-91 north (for me, we just take the backroads until we encounter US-202, and there lies the Exit 3 ramp to get on I-90 west to go to Albany/Buffalo. From there, take I-90 west for about 70 miles. (that's a lot!) Before you encounter the next direction, while you are on I-90, at Mile Marker 20.2 in Becket MA, you will see this sign that reads "You Are At 1724 Feet, Highest Elevation On I-90, East Of South Dakota." This is a landmark you should watch for.
Just before you leave Massachusetts, at Mile Marker 0.2 in West Stockbridge MA, you will see this sign that says "Leaving Massachusetts, Come Back Soon".
This sign indicates that you are about to leave Massachusetts and enter New York.
About a half mile after entering New York, you will see this sign on the right that reads "Welcome To New York" with info about I♡NY and such.
The beautiful view you get about 2-3 miles after entering New York.
About 5 miles after you enter New York, you will encounter the Canaan Toll Plaza. This is when realize that I-90 is a toll road and you remember that toll booths even exist!
After your 70 miles on I-90, you will encounter a fork. If you go left, you will get on NY-912M, and if you go right, you will stay on I-90. To get to Rochester, you must fork left to get on NY-912M, and this is the amazing view you get just before crossing the river shortly after getting on NY-912M.
A beautiful view of a farm on I-90 at the Pattersonville Travel Plaza in Pattersonville NY.
Just a car selfie, you know... :)
Here's how the rest of Day 1 went after the highway part. At 1 PM, we arrived at RIT and we picked up Melanie, and then drove ANOTHER 4 HOURS to Lake George, besides the 5 HOURS we had already drove. At 6 PM, we arrived at the Courtyard Marriott in Lake George NY! Then, from 7 to 8:30 PM, we were at the hotel pool. At 8:45 PM, we left the hotel and had dinner at Giuseppe's Pizzeria in Lake George. That was good! I got the GF sausage pizza, and it was SO big that I was only able to eat half of it! At 9:30 PM, I abruptly left the restaurant as the fireworks started and we rushed back to the hotel to get to the observation deck on the roof and we got many fireworks videos there. (I did finish my meal at Giuseppe's) At 9:45 PM, they had a 15 SECOND grand finale, and that was basically the end of my night. Here are some pics and vids from the rest of the night:
My new "thinking face" selfie I took at Giuseppe's. This is how my selfies will look from now on. Plus, the new shirt I'm wearing in the photo reads "Genius At Birth, Awesome By Choice". It's a great shirt! 🤔🤔🤔
The pizzas that are served at Giuseppe's Pizzeria in Lake George are SO big that they have to put them on pizza racks! I've never seen anything like it before! Plus, the GF crust pizzas at Giuseppe's are 14 inches, compared to 10 or 12 inches at most pizzerias!
This was my sausage GF pizza at Giuseppe's. It was SO big that I was only able to eat half of it!
And then, after my meal, came the fireworks to end the night...
The main fireworks in Lake George NY!
The GRAND FINALE of the fireworks at Lake George NY. Unfortunately, it was only like 15 SECONDS long, compared to a minute at most firework shows!
After that, it was back in the hotel and straight to bed...
Day 2
Day 2 started with waking up in the hotel room at 9:30 AM. At 9:30 AM, we all got up and started thinking about our day. Here is how we spent Day 2: At 11 AM, we went down to Charlie's Bar And Kitchen and ate breakfast there. (11 AM's a little late for breakfast, don't you think?) The meal I had there was so great that it filled me up for most of the day!
This was my meal at Charlie's Bar And Kitchen. I had scrambled eggs, ham, breakfast potatoes, and breakfast sausage. I also had some GF toast, but I forgot to take a photo of it! Ugh!
After having breakfast there, it was time to check out of the hotel and get ready for the boat cruise!
The main street in Lake George next to the Minne-Ha-Ha cruise that we went on!
Minne-Ha-Ha? Yep, we took a boat cruise around the lake of Lake George on a boat called the Minne-Ha-Ha. I think that's a funny name, but it's a great cruise!
The dock, seconds before the Minne-Ha-Ha arrived.
This is what the Minne-Ha-Ha looks like.
Just another selfie... :)
This is what Lake George looks like, both the lake and the town!
A cute little ducky in the lake... 😏😏😏
A selfie out on the lake... :)
If you want a photo of just the lake, and nothing else, then here you go...
Some people saying hi to the Minne-Ha-Ha...
A cool photo of the back end of Lake George, with the mountain rising above the trees...
A panorama of the back end of Lake George going north. Fun fact: This was my first panorama, and until 7/12/2019, I had no idea what a panorama is. Now I know it's basically a feature where you can make your photos super wide, and that is REALLY helpful for photos of mountain ranges and such.
I also took a lot of photos of houses, but am not posting them because I already have a lot of photos in here, and those are basically meaningless.
That was a lot of photos, but if you want a vid from the cruise, here you go...
Isn't that neat! This was the cool music that the Minne-Ha-Ha made when it arrived on the dock from the previous cruise!
After the cruise ended at 2:30 PM, we went to an ice cream place next to the Minne-Ha-Ha, and at first, I didn't want any, but I caved in and endulged in some chocolate ice cream with M&Ms and Snickers. It was good, it was a perfect treat on an 80-degree day, and it was the perfect treat to conclude our adventure to Lake George. But while we were leaving, I saw something really rare, rarer than rare, it was SO CRAZY! It was...
We drove by THE LAST HOWARD JOHNSON'S IN THE WORLD! The former chain, which started in the late 1920s and grew to over 1000 locations in the 1970s, was an American icon from the 50s to the 80s, but started to decline after being sold to Marriott in 1986, and there were less than 8 restaurants by the mid-2000s. In 2006, Howard Johnson's frozen foods (such as ice cream) ceased to exist. In 2016, the second-to-last location in Bangor ME closed, which left Lake George NY as the "Last One Standing!" In 2017, the operator of this last location got charged for sexual abuse, (ouch! 😦😦😦) which put the future for Howard Johnson's in uncertainty. Luckily, she got put in jail for 6 months from 2018 to 2019. (Personally, I think she should've gotten put in jail for at least a year, but that was the police's choice, not mine) But anyways, in simpler form, THEY ARE NOT DOING WELL. Only operating limited hours, not the same food, retro design...
But, anyways, I had a great time in Lake George, and I actually enjoyed it as much as I enjoy Niagara Falls! If you want to go, GO. There is great lodging, great food, and great attractions! (they have lots of arcades and outdoor fun centers in the area including the Fun World Arcade, which is conveniently located in the heart of Lake George!) I will definitely come back, and I hope to go to the arcade! It was a great week, and I can't wait to come back!
