Fall Foliage With TR27: A PROPER start to October!

A PROPER start to October!

Update 31 of the 2025 season of Fall Foliage With TR27

10.01.25

October 1st's weather was ABSOLUTELY perfect to start off October with highs in the upper 60s and near-total sunshine and October 2nd will be a repeat with temps around average in the mid-60s with lots of sunshine once again. In fact, the entire forecast through the end of the expected heat on October 7 is expected to be dry with lots of sunshine and WAY above average temps, in fact, let's get to that right now!

Here's the summary and fall foliage pics below:

For day 31:

High: 69°F
Average: 67°F
(+2)

This was a pitch-perfect day to start the month! So far, we haven't had any exactly normal high days, but that doesn't rule out the possibility of one occurring between October 2 and the end of the documentation period on December 31! Today was peak with lots of sunshine, a BIG breeze (especially around 3 PM, it was WINDY!) and seasonable temps. We repeat that October 2 and then it's back to summer after that! In fact, 65-70 isn't really true fall, that's still in-between season, which seems to be taking forever!

The expected forecast from 10/2-10/15:
10/2: 🌤️ 66/37
10/3: ⛅ 74/43
10/4: 🌤️ 80/49
10/5: ☀️ 83/50 *86 for the pink tier!
10/6: 🌤️ 84/52 *86 for the pink tier!
10/7: ⛅ 83/56 *85 for the pink tier!
10/8: 🌧️ 67/40 (59%)
10/9: ☀️ 63/34
10/10: 🌤️ 65/40
10/11: 🌧️ 68/43 (48%)
10/12: 🌧️ 65/42 (45%)
10/13: ⛅ 67/43
10/14: ⛅ 68/44
10/15: ⛅ 67/44

This forecast seems rather problematic, especially the October 4-7 period, but after that, it cools down to where we should be, almost. Beginning October 8, it looks like the highs will stabilize in the 60s, but by October 8, the average high falls to 64, and by October 15, it falls to 61, so this runs average to around 7 degrees above average, a huge improvement over the Oct 4-7 period, but the damage might already be done by then, especially since that's a time period we haven't even got to yet and further west of us, temps are expected to be closer to 90 during that timeframe, so that isn't out of the question either since there's a few days to go, but it looks like 83/84 might be a bit high of an estimate because the NWS maxes out at around 82 for that timeframe, either way, we're looking at temps right around +20 for 3 days straight, which is BAD. The warmest anomaly in September was +18 on the 28th and that was enough to send the highs throughout the entire month to just shy of 6°F above average, more than 3°C, or DOUBLE the climate change threshold of 1.5°C/2.7°F!

Here's the main pic and fall foliage pics taken 10/1/25:

Gee, lots of green for the start of October!

Downtown Northampton's looking a lot better!

October 1 and Mt. Tom's is still running under their summer hours! I'm honestly not surprised and given it's gonna be in the 80s again starting this weekend, I feel like they're going to keep their summer hours until Indigenous People's Day weekend! I might be wrong, but I might be right as well! (I'm not complaining, but I want to note that the usual time they switch to shorter hours is late September and we're past that now!)

These aren't changing anytime soon!

You can tell we're already losing the 6 PM daylight at this point! By Halloween, it'll be half dark at 6! And a week after THAT, it'll be FULLY dark at 6!

October 2 looks to be a repeat of October 1, but October 3 and especially the 4th to the 7th? NOPE! Summer lovers, you get yet ANOTHER weekend to enjoy! See you for October 2nd's update!
