Today is August 19, 2025, and we're about to have our first taste of fall weather, and it is going to hit HARD, much harder than most "false fall" cases that usually happen in mid-to-late August.
Tomorrow, August 20, 2025 is only expected to be 61 degrees Fahrenheit (~16.1°C), which is QUITE an extreme deviation for a high that would usually be a LOW at this time of year, and not surprisingly, it is expected to rain quite a bit, so it will feel like a mid-October rainstorm tomorrow, which is NOT the ideal vibe for trying to enjoy the last weeks of summer.
Current forecast highs/lows from Aug 19-Sep 2, 2025:
Celsius conversion: Take number shown, subtract by 32, and then divide by 1.8.
E.g. 50°F = (50-32)/1.8 = (18/1.8)°C = 10°C
Aug 19: Act. high: 78°F, exp. low: 56°F
Aug 20: 61°F/54°F
Aug 21: 73°F/53°F
Aug 22: 82°F/54°F
Aug 23: 85°F/59°F
Aug 24: 80°F/62°F
Aug 25: 76°F/55°F
Aug 26: 74°F/51°F
Aug 27: 73°F/49°F
Aug 28: 78°F/52°F
Aug 29: 80°F/54°F
Aug 30: 78°F/54°F
Aug 31: 78°F/54°F
Sep 1 (official start of documentation, beginning of the 2025 season of Fall Foliage With TR27): 78°F/55°F
Sep 2: 77°F/53°F
As you can tell, most of this forecast seems normal except for Aug 20's high of 61°F (the way this is going, it might get stuck in the 50s tomorrow, IN AUGUST!) and the downright chilly nights in the 50s and even upper 40s; the only nights that seem "normal' are Aug 23-24 (59°F) and Aug 24-25. (62°F) We're starting to get to the weird time of year where it's fall in the morning and summer in the afternoon where you need the hoodie in the morning but hate that you brought one by the afternoon. Highs outside of Aug 20 seem normal in the 70s and low-to-mid 80s, though highs below 75 (73 on Aug 21, 74 on Aug 26 and 73 on Aug 27) are pushing it for this time of year. Keep in mind that the average high doesn't fall below 75 until September 12, doesn't fall below 70 until September 25, doesn't fall below 65 until October 7, and doesn't fall below 60 until October 20! So tomorrow's setup SCREAMS peak fall foliage but it's raining weather, since it WILL rain tomorrow with temps as low as this.
Before you get ready for the snow shovels, pool closing equipment, and all that, let me say that IT IS NOT TIME YET! This is classic "false fall", and though on the extreme end this year, temps will return to warm levels by Aug 21st and especially by the 22nd.
And for those who close pools and stop swimming on Labor Day, let me also say that THAT IS SIMPLY TOO EARLY.
Sure, you won't be able to go to Hurricane Harbor at Six Flags after September 1, 2025 or some amusement parks completely after that date, but it will still effectively be summer for another 3-4 weeks after that. As long as temps are above 70 and it is after Labor Day (September 2nd onwards this year), not only can you totally swim after Labor Day (and you can also wear white after this date as well, the weather doesn't play by old rules like that anymore!) but you can simply do summer things for much longer than the 1st of September!
You can road trip (no end date for that, unless school/work gets in the way), you can get outside and play (even with water like a hose!), and public places like beaches will not only let you swim there after Labor Day (though AT YOUR OWN RISK, NO LIFEGUARDS AFTER SEPTEMBER 1) but most beaches will let you park for FREE or at a discounted rate post-September 1. Facilities will be closed after the holiday (bathrooms, concessions, etc.) but you can still tan in the sun, swim as much as your heart desires, make sand castles, and do so much more!
In fact, for pretty much all of September and even after that on occasion, it will be plenty warm enough to enjoy the outside, whether at parks or even beaches or your local neighborhood!
In 2024, we had MANY days post-Labor Day that were warm enough for summer activities (70+°F in my opinion), those days being:
9/3 (75°), 9/4 (81°), 9/5 (80°), 9/6 (81°), 9/7 (76°), 9/9 (75°), 9/10 (79°), 9/11 (78°), 9/12 (82°), 9/13 (85°), 9/14 (86°), 9/15 (82°), 9/16 (84°), 9/17 (80°), 9/18 (82°), 9/19 (87°), 9/20 (73°), 9/22 (72°), 9/27 (79°), 9/28 (78°), 9/30 (79°), 10/1 (72°), 10/3 (75°), 10/4 (78°), 10/5 (77°), 10/6 (70°), 10/7 (74°), 10/12 (72°), 10/19 (72°), 10/20 (75°), 10/21 (86°), 10/22 (82°), 10/23 (79°), 10/24 (70°), 10/30 (73°), 10/31 (81°), 11/1 (81°), 11/5 (75°) and 11/6! (83°)
So nearly ALL of September was warm enough for summer activities (exceptions being 9/8 at 69°, 9/21 also at 69°, 9/23 at 67°, 9/24 at 68°, 9/25 at 65°, 9/26 at 69° and 9/29 at 68°), half of October was as well (both sides of the month, early October and especially late October, 10/1, 10/3, 10/4, 10/5, 10/6, 10/7, 10/12, 10/19, especially 10/20, 10/21, 10/22, 10/23 and 10/31, 10/24 and 10/30 were all above 70 degrees!), and the first week of November had several days warm enough for warm weather activities, those being 11/1 (81°), 11/5 (75°) and 11/6! (83°) Highs above 70 AND 80 lasted until November 6th, highs in the 60s lasted through November 18 and even December 11 had a high of 62, which might be warmer than what August 20 (2025)'s high will be! Boy, oh, boy, that sounds SO wrong, because it IS! The last time the meteorologists poked fun in THIS sort of way is when July 3, 2021 only made it to 62°F and my local TV station 22News (WWLP-TV22 Springfield, MA) played a segment titled "Is it July or December???" where they documented how both July 3, 2021 and Christmas 2020 had made it to 62°F, which is just SO wrong! Not only should BOTH of those days not be 62°F (July 3 should be 82/92°F and Christmas should be 32°F for snow!) but the day in peak summer was WAY TOO COLD and the day at the start of peak winter and in the peak of the holidays was WAY TOO WARM!
Point being: DON'T give up on summer yet, this is just a cold day and summer has a few of those, August 20 being one of them. Summer WILL return and we've still got a month left until we're officially in fall, which starts September 22, but with the way the weather's been going, expect warm days WELL after that date!
Now, about the 2025 iteration of Fall Foliage With TR27:
Unlike 2023 and 2024, the main goal this season (September 1 until at least November 30, the meteorological fall) will be to document the temperatures during meteorological fall since they were so bizarre in 2023 and 2024, with warm temps staying WELL after Labor Day, Columbus Day, and even Halloween! (2024 only)
There WILL be fall foliage shown (e.g. in pictures of thermometer signs) but it will NOT be the priority.
See you for the next update, and officially on Labor Day, September 1! I bet ya Costco will have their Xmas stuff out by then, they had it out on 8/29/22!
Pics:
P.S. The last photo is from 2 days ago. The high for the 20th then was expected to be 70°F, but now it has dropped to 61°F, nearly a 5°F drop per day! I honestly think it's going to get stuck in the 50s tomorrow, and that's REALLY saying something...
