Ditching the desserts... All Androids Q and after to simply be named Android 10, 11, etc., along with logo redesign...

That's it, fellas! After 10 sweet years of delicious names, Google is ditching the desserts. Android Q will simply be named Android 10, along with every version afterwards being named the consecutive number (11, 12, etc.) Why is the change happening? Two reasons. One, Q is a hard letter. I mean, there's not many desserts (or anything!) that starts with Q. So that's one reason. The second and main reason: The dessert names can be hard in some parts of the world. Like, lollipop. That can be hard in some parts of the world, especially the UK. Like are you talking about a lollipop, a lolly (any candy) , or an ice lolly? (Known as a popsicle in the US) See, that's confusing! And marshmallows? Those aren't really popular in many countries. And it was a good time for a change. 10 years was a good amount of time for the old system. And Q was the PERFECT time for a change. However, the codenames will still be after the letter. But it won't be BASED on the letter anymore.

And here is a history of Android:

First, the wordmark.

2008-2014:

Only Android lovers from the very start will know this one! 😉😉😉

2014-2017:

This is probably the one you are most familiar with. It was started as a HUGE change from the previous logo in 2014 and was used until 2017.

2017-2019:

Slight change to the 2014 logo. Just a bolder font, and that's really about it.

2019-present:

A completely new logo in commemoration of the 10th version of Android, Android 10.(Q) This logo will start usage when Android 10 is fully released later in 2019.

Now, to each release's individual logo:

Android 1.0 (Astroid)
(Released September 23, 2008)

This version doesn't have a logo, it's just the Android robot logo.

Android 1.1 (Petit Four*)
(Released February 9, 2009)

Basically not a logo; just the Android robot with "1.1" on its body, representing the version number.
* Petit Four? Uh... Why? Because it was the second version, it should've been something starting with B. Android "Biscuit" or "Bagel" would've been preferred, at least by me.

Android 1.5 (Cupcake)
(Released April 27, 2009)

Honestly, a bad logo. But this was 2009, so it was the early days of Android, so I have to give Google credit.

Android 1.6 (Donut)
(Released September 15, 2009)

I honestly don't know what to say about this one. Is the Android robot playing hide and seek behind a donut, hiding behind a donut, or what, I just don't know! 😂😂😂

Android 2.0 (Éclair)
(Released October 26, 2009)

What a bad logo! I mean, what the heck? Why are the Android robots hiding behind an éclair? Just another bad early Android logo. 😂😂😂

Android 2.2 (Froyo)
(Released May 20, 2010)

This could not be worse. I mean, THIS IS CLEARLY PHOTOSHOPPED. GREAT CHEAP JOB, ANDROID! 😂😂😂

Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
(Released December 6, 2010)

A little bit of a BETTER JOB, ANDROID! Thank you! 😂😂😂

Android 3.0 (Honeycomb)
(Released February 22, 2011)

Another bad logo... 😂😂😂

Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
(Released October 19, 2011)

This is actually ingenius, for the first time! ☺☺☺

Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean)
(Released July 9, 2012)

This is also a good idea for a logo!

Android 4.4 (KitKat)
(Released October 31, 2013)

Ingenius! I love this!

Android 5.0 (Lollipop)
(Released November 12, 2014)

Just the Android robot holding a sweet lollipop... ☺☺☺

Android 6.0 (Marshmallow)
(Released October 5, 2015)

Hey, where's the robot? This is the first ever Android logo that doesn't feature the Android robot; just a modern logo with two trapezoids joined together in the shape of an M. M is for marshmallow, obviously.
P.S. This is my Android version, 6.0.1! (Marshmallow)

Android 7.0 (Nougat)
(Released August 22, 2016)

Android robot, where are you? This is the second version in a row without the Android robot in it. Although, this is a very nice looking N for Nougat.

P.S. I am writing this exactly 3 years after Nougat was released. Happy 3 year anniversary, Android Nougat!

Android 8.0 (Oreo)
(Released August 21, 2017)

There you are, Android robot! I think this is an ingenious logo! But, this is currently the last logo that features the Android robot, so, farewell?

Android 9.0 (Pie)
(Released August 6, 2018)

A beautifully designed P for Pie. Great job, Android!

P.S. This is the last ever Android version named after a dessert. Farewell to a popular Android trend.

Android 10.0 (10; Q)
(Releasing Fall 2019)

An aesthetic looking Q for Android Q. (now known as Android 10)

That was a very long history of logos, and farewell to a popular Android trend.
