Another retailer gone... Payless closing ALL US and Canadian stores...

An iconic American shoestore staple since 1956, Payless has filed for Ch. 11 bankruptcy and is shuttering ALL 2,354 US and Canadian stores out of around 3,600 stores worldwide. (That's two-thirds of their locations simply GONE) Aw, how sad.
I actually don't know if I'd blame the internet on this one. All we can say is that it's another giant to fall. As I said, 2354 of around 3600 worldwide locations are shuttering. The other 1200 will remain open. They will be closed by March. It's the first retail fall of 2019, where 2018 had a lot of retail falls (Toys R Us, The Bon-Ton, Sears (and Kmart) (filed for Ch. 11, but around 400 are open as of February 2019)) But get this: Sears had 3500 LOCATIONS in 2010. So about NINETY PERCENT of their locations have closed in only 9 YEARS!

Back to Payless:

Yep, they're done. (in the US and Canada)
Even though they JUST announced their closing, they have already shut down their website, as this is what it looks like on Feb 20, 2019:

Two messages read:

1) After 62 Years, All 2,354 Payless Stores Are CLOSING
Liquidation Sales Now In All Locations.
20% to 40% Off Lowest Ticketed Price!

And 2):

A Message To Our Customers

We would like to express our deep gratitude for your loyalty and your business over the past 62 years. Despite our best efforts to address the rapidly changing retail enviroment, we have made the difficult decision to close our stores in the US and Puerto Rico and have wound down our e-commerce site.

We invite you to visit your local stores that are conducting liquidation sales that will continue until at least March. Again, our sincere gratitude goes out to our customers for their support over the years.
