IT'S DAY 5 OF OUR TRIP TO CAPE COD!
Saturday was June 27, 2020, and it marked the 5th and final day of our trip to Cape Cod! The day started with me getting up at 7am, so we could catch the 11am ferry to Martha's Vineyard, which is the earliest I've ever woken up on a summer vacation to go to another location, pretty cool! We got to the ferry around 11, took off at 12, and arrived in Martha's Vineyard at Oak Bluffs around 12:30pm, and we explored for awhile, even taking public transportation to go places on the island, and it was pretty cool to see what was on the island! By the way, I had a Diet Coke on the ferry, and took selfies at the Oak Bluffs dock, and it was very fun! We got into Oak Bluffs at 1, and let me tell you, Oak Bluffs (and all of Martha's Vineyard) looks like a DIFFERENT COUNTRY! Basically, it's as close as I can get to visiting another country in these times of COVID-19, it looked very European or some other country, the buildings, the small streets, everything! When we got to the information booth (yes, they still HAVE those! 😂😱), there was a sign that said "Welcome To The 2020 MV Masquerade", which basically is a fancy way to say that you have to wear a mask while in public in Martha's Vineyard. (MASK-erade, get it?) So, we got a map, then explored until we wanted to see a lighthouse, which we had to take a bus to get to (don't worry, I had my mask on at all times inside the bus), but when we got there, it was only a view of it from about ~5 miles away, maybe close to 10 miles. However, it was a very cool experience. Who knows, maybe in 2021 we'll get closer or even INSIDE it! But, at that time, I had to go to the bathroom and it started to rain. (Unfortunately, the nice weather at the beginning of the day didn't stick around for long...) This was around 2pm, by the way, when it was supposed to start raining, it did, and that was unfortunate. We explored more with light rain, but around 3pm, it really started to rain. And this was when we ordered lunch in Martha's Vineyard, pizza for everyone, and a plain cheeseburger for me from a different restaurant because I'm gluten free. And around 3:30, I ate it, but because it was approaching 4pm and the rain wasn't approaching an end, we cut our trip short by 2 hours due to the rain. At around 3:45pm, we RAN to catch the ferry, about 1 1/2 hours earlier than our scheduled departure. Luckily, we got there in time, and got on, and at 3:45pm, we got the ferry, arrived back in Falmouth at 4:30pm, took the 3 hour drive (2 1/2 hours technically, but 3 because we had to make 2 stops), and at 7:30pm, we got back home, and that was the end of Day 5 and our vacation to Cape Cod. Sadly, all good things must come to an end, and vacations DEFINITELY apply, sadly... 😭😭😭
Breakfast: 2 dark chocolate chip waffles with scrambled eggs 👍
The former Friendly's in Falmouth, which closed in 2019. Also, the last Friendly's on the Cape, in Hyannis near the Cape Cod Mall, shuttered for good while we were there, around June 24-27, 2020. It's a sad end for the once thriving chain that started in Wilbraham, MA in 1935. 👎
The ferry terminal, ferries, and the ferry ride itself: 👍
Me sipping on my Diet Coke I had on the ferry: 👍
Arriving in Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard, selfies at the dock, exploring the island...👍
Taking the bus on the island... 👍
Sorry it's blurry, but here's a Black Lives Matter sign I saw while on the bus... 👍
More exploring and the lighthouse... 👍
Lunch: A plain cheeseburger (with the bun) 👍
By the way, because it was raining by this point, I ate it under a boarded up theatre that either is closed because of COVID-19 or it closed before COVID. By the way, it gets to open again in Phase 3 of Massachusetts' reopening plan, which (might) begin Monday, July 6! Also, arcades, bowling, museums, aquariums, and more will open in this phase, but probably not immediately for safety precautions.
Departure... 👎
The snacks I bought on the ride home: a cinnamon bun flavored protein bar and a bag of M&Ms... 👍
It was an amazing vacation, and I can't wait to go back!
