Quibyebye! Quibi is officially done, only 8 months after launch (December 1, 2020)

Most of this was Quibi's fault, but this was still one of the biggest flops of 2020, which goes to show you just how hard it was to start a business in the chaotic year that was 2020. Having to worry about safety through a pandemic, hoping you don't get broken in by BLM protesters, an extreme lack of money, among many others... Okay, Quibi. We get you, but maybe you did make a few fatal mistakes as well...

Here's what happened that led to the downfall of Quibi.

1) The app began on April 6, 2020, right after everything shut down due to COVID-19, when the app was meant for use during travel, like on a subway or things like that, which was NOT helpful with a stay-at-home order in most areas set in the US at this point. (However, no national quarantine was announced)
(Bad timing, partially Quibi's fault, they could've pushed the date back and maybe the app would've succeeded?)

2) The app only worked on mobile devices (smartphones/tablets), and could not be installed on other devices, such as laptops, computers, or smart TVs, which was a big flop and mistake for the company. (Quibi's fault)

3) You had to pay for the app for only quibis (10 minutes) of content per episode, when YouTube offers WAY more content at the same length (or shorter or longer) for FREE, with advertisements. Much better. My whole show, My High School Years (returning early 2021), is completely free with no ads, with episodes from 1 minute to 30+ minutes long, depending on what I do during the week. (Sorry, Quibi, quibi is not going in the dictionary, only the history books on Chapter 7: Bankruptcy/Huge Failures, section 2020)🤣🤣🤣 (Entirely Quibi's fault, too competitive of a market to stand a chance)

4) (extension of 3) Too much competition. For similar prices, other services, like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video (which was actually the first streaming service, not Netflix, surprisingly), Disney+, HBO Max, YouTube (free), Peacock (mostly free, some content requires payment, but not much, which pretty much launched at the EXACT same time as Quibi, only 9 days after on 4/15/2020 for Xfinity customers, and to the public on 7/15/2020, and FOR FREE), and others either existent now or coming soon, was just too much for Quibi to handle and it completely collapsed, after spending BILLIONS on content, that just wasn't, you know, worth it... (Quibi's fault for underestimating the competition)

5) NO SHARING. The app, at first, didn't allow users to screenshot the app, they could, but when the screenshot was looked at, it would just be a black screen, I get they wanted to do this for copyright reasons because Disney+ did the same thing, but it didn't work out. Later, a screenshot feature was introduced in-app, but by that point, it was too late...
(Quibi's fault)

RIP April 6, 2020 - December 1, 2020

You may or may not be missed...

Quibi: basically the MoviePass of 2020, a very quick and short rise and immediate long fall... (MoviePass was a service, like AMC Stubs or Cinemark Movie Rewards, that allowed you to watch a certain amount of movies from the theaters for a certain price; from late 2018, the price being 3 movies/day for $9.99/month, which is definitely NOT profitable, and therefore, after running out of money numerous times, MoviePass closed on September 8, 2019, and was officially defunct by January 2020 when their parent company filed for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy. (winddown of the company, and immediate shutdown)

You tried, Quibi, you tried...

Note: as of December 12, 2020, the website is still up, but the app no longer works; however, Quibi is still on the Play Store with mostly positive reviews at 4 out of 5 with 1M+ downloads, compared to Netflix's 1B+ downloads at 4.4 out of 5. Too. Much. Competition.

Quibi on the Google Play Store as of 12/12/2020 (no longer functioning)
4 out of 5, with over 1 million downloads. Good, but could be better...

Compared to Netflix on the Google Play Store as of 12/12/2020 with over 1 BILLION downloads, and 4.4 out of 5. Too much competition.
