Fall Foliage With TR27: Finally, A Cooldown! (09.20.25)

Finally, A Cooldown!

Update 20 of the 2025 season of Fall Foliage With TR27

09.20.25 (published 09.21)

After the LONG continuous summer weather pattern, just 2 days before the equinox, our last weekend of summer is feeling the way it should, slightly warm instead of really warm and with a nice cool breeze and lots of sunshine as well. This weekend has been very sunny and slightly warm and it looks like that will continue tomorrow for the last day of summer!

Oh, before I forget, FINALLY, we got an actual cooldown this weekend!

Here's the summary and fall foliage pics below:

For day 20:

High: 75°F
Average: 71°F
(+4)

Today's reading was WAY more typical for this time of year, and as much as I love the 80s and lots of sunshine, it's time for that weather to depart for the rest of the year considering it's the last weekend of summer. The expected forecast has cooled down slightly, but it is still rather above average with most of the forecast above 70°F as highs, though some highs in the upper 60s (basically normal by this time of year) are now expected as we close out September, and I must say it was a VERY warm month!

The expected forecast from 9/21-10/4:
9/21: ⛅ 72/41
9/22: ⛅ 77/56
9/23: ⛈️ 81/60 (51%)
9/24: 🌧️ 72/55 (51%)
9/25: ☁️ 70/57
9/26: 🌧️ 76/62 (39%)
9/27: ☁️ 75/56
9/28: 🌥️ 73/48
9/29: ⛅ 73/48
9/30: ⛅ 72/46
10/1: ⛅ 71/46
10/2: ⛅ 72/47
10/3: ⛅ 73/48
10/4: ⛅ 69/45

This upcoming forecast seems more normal, except for 9/23's high in the 80s (the first full day of fall potentially being above 80 should set off alarm bells for EVERYBODY) and unusually high nighttime temps in the upper 50s and even low 60s, which are solid red tier territory by this time of year, 11-20°F above average.

To be clear: Nighttime lows in red tier territory are WAY worse than daytime highs in red tier territory because nighttime is supposed to be cooler so the body can effectively cool, but those nighttime lows between September 22-27 look more like August 22-27 nighttime lows, a SERIOUS problem! It's bad enough when it's 80 degrees this late in the year, but when it's in the 60s at night into the beginning of fall, that's a REAL problem. Thankfully, around a week after the equinox, that breaks down and nighttime lows go to the 40s, where they should be for this time of year!

One more thing though: This forecast is closer to normal, but the fact that the first day "only" in the 60s is October 4th is rather problematic, as we should start flirting with 60s as highs by the equinox (between Sep 21-23 usually, Sep 22 in 2025) and this is at least 2 weeks behind! This forecast is still unusually warm, and those nighttime lows during this upcoming stormy weather are awfully warm for this time of year. If you've put away your AC already, you made that move too early and warm nights are still ahead...

A rather small update today as I haven't gotten around to taking as many pics as I should. See you for the last day of summer!
