Fall Foliage With TR27: Red Flags (09.15.25)
Red Flags
Update 15 of the 2025 season of Fall Foliage With TR27
09.15.25
Today ended up being the first red tier day (11-20°F above average), but what I must say is that the PWS was likely reading a bit over what the actual temp was. Also for today, I must admit that the weather was absolutely gorgeous, with highs in the 80s and lots of sunshine. Today felt like July but on easy mode, but unfortunately, that title for this update is already taken! Anyways, today felt like summer but with a lower humidity, so it didn't feel sticky outside. As much as I hate to admit it, that feeling IS coming back. In September... 🥵😬
Here's the summary and fall foliage pics below:
For today, day 15:
High: 85°F*
Average: 73°F
(+12)
*I highly doubt the temp actually got this high today, but I must accept each daily high that the PWS gives me, and it's much better than how unreliable Westover AFB has been recently with its missing data. Today, Westover AFB read a high of 81, but there was a gap in data in the late morning/early afternoon. Anyways, today is the first red tier day of these updates, and though the reading was likely above the actual temp, it was still within a 5 degree margin of error, so not great but WAY better than it could possibly be. I give this a C grade in terms of meteorology: passing, but it could be noticeably better, but for a PWS, not bad. I've seen some VERY bad PWSs and this is NOT one of them. On occasion throughout the updates and at the end of the updates (likely 11.30.25 and 12.31.25), I will share the total average recorded at the PWS versus Westover, but I may have to skip some days because of missing data.
The expected forecast from 9/16-9/29:
9/16: ⛅ 78/50
9/17: 🌥️ 75/54
9/18: ⛅ 81/56
9/19: 🌤️ 81/47
9/20: ☀️ 72/47
9/21: ⛅ 74/53
9/22: ⛅ 78/57
9/23: ⛅ 82/61
9/24: 🌧️ 79/55 (36%)
9/25: ⛅ 78/52
9/26: ⛅ 75/51
9/27: 🌤️ 72/50
9/28: 🌤️ 75/51
9/29: 🌤️ 75/52
9/23 is nearly red BOTH at day and at night, being 12°F above average during the day and a low at night 10°F above average! 82/61 is more like your average summer day, and this will be the weather on the first FULL day of fall. Yeah, that's NOT good... 🥵😬
This forecast is perfect weather, but NOT for this time of year! Sure, many days are only in the 70s, but this forecast would be prime for the 1st half of September, NOT the 2nd! Getting to the end of September and STILL being in the mid-70s is summer REALLY trying to overstep its boundaries! This forecast is a climate red flag! 🚩😬🥵 I love this weather but this is such a problematic forecast for this late in the year, with temps as high as that and such a lack of rainfall expected!
Here's the main pic and fall foliage pics taken 9/15/25:
The tree out my window has already peaked and is now losing its leaves, the first one to do so!
The college campus is starting to look gorgeous! 😁 Once again, it is still VERY early!
More pics from while I was on public transportation, the PVTA. Shoutout to the Massachusetts government and the PVTA themselves for keeping it free for over a year and a half! (11.01.24-06.30.26 is the current timeline) Sorry for the glare!
Noticeable improvement on that tree to the left!
Aside from a few changing trees, it still looks like summer, but that's because it technically is summer through about 2 PM on the 22nd!
I think it's safe to say that this tree in my area is at peak. How beautiful! 🤩🤩🤩
This had A LOT of the leaves turn red by early August, but it seems that the entire bush is now a beautiful red!
This isn't technically a fall foliage pic, but this is an announcement of a local business that is closed while the owner goes on vacation from September 14-23. Normally, this time of year is a wildcard for vacationing depending on where you go (usually the further south, the better), but in this area, for nearly that ENTIRE period, it will be warm enough for warm weather activities, though the water temp is now likely falling due to cold nights that we've had! Time's running out to do those if you haven't yet! In fact, the LAST day in that period, the 23rd, is likely going to feel THE MOST like summer with highs in the low 80s and a possibility that on the morning of the 24th, it would be no colder than 60°F outside, highly unusual! 😬
This seems about right, but at sunset? No, wait a minute, that doesn't sound right... This was reading 85-86° midday today, but I didn't get pics of that since that reading was likely WAY off, except that's what the PWS got to today. Huh?
*Updated 10:37 AM on 9/16/25 to colorize highs based on how far above or below average they were and to add main pic and the fall foliage pics themselves.
