Fall Foliage With TR27: Solidly Summer (09.16.25)
Solidly Summer
Update 16 of the 2025 season of Fall Foliage With TR27
09.16.25
Today officially marks the beginning of the 2nd half of September 2025. Typically, this is when the REAL cooldown begins (rather than the spells we get on either side of Labor Day), but this year, any cooldown we ARE expected to get is going to be minimal and with a cold front that will quickly pass. It looks like for the rest of September, we will struggle to have highs below 70! Normally by this point, we would struggle to have highs ABOVE 70, but that's just not happening this year, and it didn't happen in 2023 and 2024. Last year, this week (9/16-9/19/24) was in the midst of a SERIOUS summer pattern with highs well into the 80s daily with the end of said pattern on 9/19 having the warmest weather. It looks like 9/19/25 will basically be the same weather as 9/19/24, minus a few degrees, but not that many. Anyways, this forecast is still solidly summer, and for the 2nd half of September, with the leaves starting to change color but with temps staying warm, it is starting to feel off!
Here's the summary and fall foliage pics below:
For today, day 16:
High: 78°F
Average: 73°F
(+5)
Today was a MUCH more reliable reading from the PWS, with it reading a high of 78 and Westover AFB reading a high of 77 today, basically the same! Anyways, the forecast for the rest of September is basically a battle between fall and summer, but much more extreme than usual, with highs in the 80s expected BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER THE EQUINOX! Having 80s as highs right before the equinox is unusual enough, but such weather AFTER the equinox is where we enter "climate FUBAR" territory, meaning "climate (fucked up beyond all recognition)", 80s THIS late in September is DANGEROUS territory, but considering how such weather lasted until late October (2023) and November 6 (2024), we're in rare territory but nothing extreme, YET. Once we get to October 1st, then things go from bad to worse.
The expected forecast from 9/17-9/30:
9/17: 🌥️ 76/56
9/18: ⛅ 81/55
9/19: 🌤️ 78/46
9/20: ☀️ 71/42
9/21: 🌤️ 72/46
9/22: 🌤️ 77/55
9/23: ⛅ 82/59
9/24: ⛅ 80/56
9/25: ⛅ 77/52
9/26: ⛅ 76/52
9/27: ⛅ 74/50
9/28: ⛅ 73/49
9/29: ⛅ 73/48
9/30: ⛅ 75/49
WHOA. This forecast is beautiful weather, but this is obviously SO WRONG. Many of these days are orange tier territory (6-10°F above average), but some of them might even get into red tier territory (11-20°F above average) if this forecast gets any warmer. We're playing a DANGEROUS game with weather THIS warm THIS late!

Looking nice over here!
Once AGAIN, summer continues. See you tomorrow!
